Predicting SummerSlam 2025 Match Order
I predict the match order for each night of the first two-night SummerSlam.
On Aug. 2 and 3, 2025, WWE will be presenting the first-ever two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The “Biggest Party of the Summer” will feature a WrestleMania rematch, as “The Never Seen 17”, “The Last Real Champion” John Cena will be attempting to retain the WWE Undisputed Championship in a Street Fight against “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, CM Punk will be attempting to win his first World Championship in WWE since 2013 against “The Ring General” GUNTHER, multiple championships will be on the line, rivalries will culminate and more.
It’s one thing to predict the winners of the SummerSlam docket. It’s a whole ‘nother to predict the order in which the contests appear.
I’ve done this exercise every year since WrestleMania 38 in 2022 for “The Showcase of the Immortals”. For WrestleMania 41, I had success in predicting the order for almost every match on the card.
Let’s start with Saturday’s show. The first thing in predicting a match order for a card is to make a list of the match card in order of importance. In other words, the match most likely to main event should be at the top of the list and the least important match should be at the bottom. This list should be as objective as possible. It’s not necessarily what match I think is the most important; it’s what match WWE views as the most important. This is determined by the amount of screen time WWE gives each feud and where they are placed on RAW and SmackDown (main event, opening segment, ect).
Saturday
GUNTHER (C) vs CM Punk. World Heavyweight Championship
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed (W/ Paul Heyman)
Randy Orton and Jelly Roll vs Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul
Tiffany Stratton (C) vs Jade Cargill. WWE Women’s Championship
Raquel Rodriquez and Roxanne Perez (C) vs Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships
Sami Zayn vs Karrion Kross (W/ Scarlett)
Now that the list of total matches/segments has been created, let’s create the card.
Opening Match and Main Event
The main event of Night 1 is obvious, as “The Ring General” will be defending his World Championship against “The Second City Saint”. For GUNTHER, it is his SummerSlam main event. Punk is main eventing “The Biggest Party of the Summer” for the first time since 2011.
The question then becomes: What opens the show? In my opinion, if Roman Reigns does not main event a show at this point in his career, WWE should open up with the OTC. The formula worked out during Crown Jewel 2024. Yes, Jey Uso opened up WrestleMania 41, but with all the tag matches on Saturday night, it’s best to separate them out as much as possible.
That leaves us with the following card:
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker (W/ Paul Heyman).
TBD
TBD
TBD
TBD
GUNTHER (C) vs CM Punk. World Heavyweight Championship
The Rest
Before we determine where the rest of the card lands, it’s going to be a lot easier to place in segment two because that is typically where one of the least important match on the card goes. By my list, that means either the Women’s Tag Title match or the trilogy between Sami Zayn and Karrion Kross goes here. Let’s go with the Tag Title match, so we can separate that title match and the Women’s Championship match by a good margin,
Jelly Roll and Randy Orton vs Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre may steal the show. Expectations for the country music star are high, considering what celebrities such as Johnny Knoxville and Bad Bunny have done inside the squared circle during the past few years. However, out of all the matches on the card, this match has the least amount of stakes overall, and with a technical masterpiece potentially occurring in the main event, I think it would be best to slot the tag match right before the World Title showdown.
That leaves only two matches left for Saturday: Sami Zayn vs Karrion Kross and the Women’s Championship bout. As mentioned above, we’ll give space between the two women’s matches.
That gives us the following card for Saturday:
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker (W/ Paul Heyman)
Raquel Rodriquez and Roxanne Perez (C) vs Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships
Sami Zayn vs Karrion Kross (W/ Scarlett)
Tiffany Stratton (C) vs Jade Cargill. WWE Women’s Championship
Randy Orton and Jelly Roll vs Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre
GUNTHER (C) vs CM Punk. World Heavyweight Championship
Sunday
Just like with Saturday, the first order of business in ordering the card for Sunday is ranking the matches in order from most important to least important:
John Cena (C) vs Cody Rhodes. Street Fight. WWE Undisputed Championship
Naomi (C) vs IYO SKY vs Rhea Ripley. Women’s World Championship
Becky Lynch (C) vs Lyra Valkyria. No DQ/Countout. Women’s Intercontinental Championship
Solo Sikoa (C. W/ MFT) vs Jacob Fatu. Steel Cage. United States Championship
Wyatt Sicks (C) vs The Street Profits vs #DIY vs Fraxiom vs Motor City Machine Guns vs Andrade and Rey Fenix. TLC. WWE Tag Team Championships
Dominik Mysterio (C) vs A.J. Styles. Intercontinental Championship
Segments 1, 2 and 6
WWE has oddly arranged this SummerSlam card, in my opinion, as Saturday has three tag team matches (two non-title) and three non-title matches overall, with none of the matches having a stipulation attached. Meanwhile, Sunday features six title matches, with five of them consisting of a stipulation (or no disqualification). Because of this, Sunday’s card is going to be more tricky to book.
We know the main event is going to be Cena V. Rhodes II for the Undisputed Title. This card features a Steel Cage, a TLC, a NO DQ and a Street Fight match. With the Street Fight main eventing, I think it would be best to put the TLC match first and let those boys have a car crash. Plus, TLC matches often takes time to set up, and they typically go longer than a Steel Cage. Because of what those 12 Superstars might put their body through, let’s put the one non-stipulation match in segment two.
That leaves us with the following card:
Wyatt Sicks (C) vs The Street Profits vs #DIY vs Fraxiom vs Motor City Machine Guns vs Andrade and Rey Fenix. TLC. WWE Tag Team Championships
Dominik Mysterio (C) vs A.J. Styles. Intercontinental Championship
TBD
TBD
TBD
John Cena (C) vs Cody Rhodes. Street Fight. WWE Undisputed Championship
The Rest
All that’s left to book is the two women’s matches and the Steel Cage battle for the U.S. Title. Just like we did on Saturday, we’re going to give some distance to the women’s matches, giving priority to the World Title match later in the card, with the Steel Cage sandwiched in between.
That gives us the following card for Sunday:
Wyatt Sicks (C) vs The Street Profits vs #DIY vs Fraxiom vs Motor City Machine Guns vs Andrade and Rey Fenix. TLC. WWE Tag Team Championships
Dominik Mysterio (C) vs A.J. Styles. Intercontinental Championship
Becky Lynch (C) vs Lyra Valkyria. No DQ/Countout. Women’s Intercontinental Championship
Solo Sikoa (C. W/ MFT) vs Jacob Fatu. Steel Cage. United States Championship
Naomi (C) vs IYO SKY vs Rhea Ripley. Women’s World Championship
John Cena (C) vs Cody Rhodes. Street Fight. WWE Undisputed Championship
